Chris Columbus To Produce THE GOONIES and GREMLINS Sequels?

There's another rumor from The Tracking Board that has hit the web that says Harry Potter director Chris Columbus is set to produce the sequels to The Goonies and Gremlins. It was originally reported that Gremlins would be a remake, but according to /Film the film will actually be a sequel that takes place 30 years after the original film.

There has been no official confirmation of Columbus' involvement at the moment, so we'll treat this as a rumor for now.

Warner Bros. has been looking to get another Gremlins made for several years. The film project is currently on the fast track to production with Seth Grahame-Smith and David Katzenberg set to produce.

The Goonies sequel has also been a topic of discussion for years, but until recently it didn't seem like it would ever happen. The original movie's director Richard Donner is on board the project, and he is the one who basically announced the sequel was actually happening. He also said that Steven Spielberg came up with the idea for the story, and they are looking to get the original cast together to star in it.

Spielberg is, of course, expected to be involved with both of these projects as an executive producer. I personally think it will be fun to revisit these classic movies and characters in these sequels. I'm really glad that these are going to be sequels and not remakes. I don't ever want to see these movies remade.

Columbus is a talented filmmaker, and he worked on the original scripts for both The Goonies and Gremlins. So it makes sense that he would come on board to help in the process of bringing these sequels to life.
