David Ayer Had A Therapist on The Set of SUICIDE SQUAD In Case The Actors Broke Down

If you've seen any of David Ayer's films, then you know the guy is all about bringing hardcore realism to his movies. That's one of the reasons why I thought he would be the perfect director to take on Suicide Squad, because if anyone could ground it in reality in an awesome way, it's him.

The director also pushes his actors to get the best and most authentic performances he can out of them. According to Adam Beach, who plays Slipknot in the movie, the director brought in an on-set therapist just in case any of the actors cracked while portraying any of the villains they played. While talking to E! Online, he said:

"David Ayer is about realism. So if your character is tormented, he wants you to torment yourself. He wants the real thing. We kind of have like a therapist on board if you fall off the wagon and really are villainous. There's a friend of [Ayer's] that's very unique in making sure we have our ground. Us actors explore very fine thin lines going to the dark side and he wants to make sure we finish a movie and don't disappear somewhere and then don't show up for work."

That's hilariously awesome. He just wants to make sure none of his actors lose themselves and turn into a real villain. Better safe than sorry, I guess. I'm sure that therapist would have come in handy with Jared Leto, who sent co-star Margot Robbie a live rat and Will Smith a dead hog as gifts. In all seriousness, I wonder if any of the actors had to take advantage of having a therapist on the set.

Suicide Squad will storm into theaters on August 5th, 2016.
