David Fincher Teaming with Julie Taymor and Trent Reznor on FIGHT CLUB Rock Opera

David Fincher's Fight Club cemented him as one of America's most interesting directors, and the movie has become a certifiable cult classic over the past sixteen years. Author Chuck Palahniuk wrote a comic book sequel to the original story, but other than that, we haven't heard much about seeing anything else set in the world of Tyler Durden and Project Mayhem.

Here's where things get weird. A couple of days ago, this happened:

And then Palahniuk himself tweeted the following:

"Julie Taymor working with David Fincher on a FIGHT CLUB rock opera? You didn’t hear it from me. :) #SDCC"

The weird part? Palahniuk retweeted that first tweet, but deleted his own. I'm guessing he might be feeling some heat from Fincher and the people involved with the eventual rock opera about letting the cat out of the bag, but it's the internet, so of course people saw his tweet when it happened the first time. There's always someone watching...

The Taymor connection is interesting since she had nothing to do with the original film and isn't a regular collaborator of Fincher's. She did win a Tony Award for Best Director of The Lion King a few years back, and she's well known for her distinctly eye-popping visual style, as seen in movies like Across the Universe and Titus. So it appears Fincher has something big in mind for his Fight Club rock opera. And this would be an opportunity for Reznor, who didn't write the score for the film because of prior commitments, to put his own sonic stamp on this material.

Would you go see a Fight Club rock opera?
