Diablo Cody Will Rewrite BARBIE Movie

Last year it was announced that Sony Pictures would be teaming up with Mattel to develop a big screen adaption of Barbie. The studio initially hired Jenny Bicks to write a script, but now according to Deadline they’ve brought on Diablo Cody to give the script a rewrite. Cody has worked on films such as Juno, Young Adult, and Jennifer’s Body. Producer Walter Parkes had this to say in a statement:

“Diablo’s unconventionality is just what Barbie needs. It signals we’re going for a legitimately contemporary tone. We’re bringing her on because she had great ideas, but even more importantly, she truly loves Barbie.”

I don’t know. I’ve never bought into the Diablo Cody hype. She wrote one good movie that won an Oscar, but the rest of the stuff she has done is pretty mediocre work. She’s definitely an interesting choice to work on the film as she is mostly known for writing edgier films, and when I think of Barbie and don’t think about that Diablo Cody-type edge. But then what do I know about Barbie? Nothing, other than my girls are always asking for them when we go to the toy store.

This is a movie I know that I’m going to be dragged to by my kids, so I hope it's good for my sake and the sake of all the other parents out there who will be taking their kids to see this movie.
