It looks like Disney is actually getting ready to start production on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea in early 2015! The feature film adaptation of the Jules Verne’s classic has been in development for years. It went through directors such as McG and David Fincher.
Fincher was the last director attached to develop the project, but back in 2013 the project was reported to be dead. Apparently the director gave up on the project after he and the studio couldn't agree on casting.
I would have loved to see Fincher's vision of this story brought to life. There's no word on who will direct it at this point, but it would be great if Fincher came back to finish what he started.
The film will shoot in Australia where Disney will receive a ton of incentives by the Australian government. The project is said to be the biggest budget feature ever to shoot in the country. I'll make sure to fill you in on any other information on the film as it becomes available.
