Don't Wait For A GOONIES Sequel, Play It On Nintendo Today!

While teases of a Goonies sequel still echo throughout the hills of Hollywood, Goonies II has been circulating basement boxes and garage sales for years now. On a list of weird games during the original Nintendo era, Goonies II: The Fratellis Last Stand is for sure on the list for many reasons.

First off, there was never a Goonies video game on the Nintendo system. The original Goonies video game received a release on Nintendo VS. arcade cabinets and was so popular it received a sequel. So when this game released in the U.S. a year after the original Goonies left theaters, you expected it to be a sequel to the events of the film, right?

Things start out somewhat believably. The Fratellis have escaped from prison and kidnapped all of the Goonies but Mikey. You play as Mikey and must navigate your way through houses and dungeons to rescue your friends...and a mermaid named Annie. You accomplish this by running errands for complete strangers and beating the hell out of an old woman until she gives you a candle.

Playing as Mikey, you also encounter a fish man, superheroes, and an old man with the ability to warp time and space. Take that on top of the fact you must kill all the Fratellis with just a yo-yo and a slingshot, you'd think the Goonies would be more appreciative of your accomplishments...but alas...

Goonies never say die...but that's only because there are plenty of synonyms for it.

Essentially, this game turns the beloved hero Mikey into a murderous vigilante whose friends think he's an asshole. It's a cult classic in either case, and worth a play if you are in the mood for something mind-bendingly frustrating. Why wait for Hollywood to squash your childhood memories when you can do it right now with a five dollar purchase?
