Just yesterday we showed you some awesome fan art that that gave us a look at what the unreleased trailer for Warcraft that was shown at BlizzCon 2014 looked like. In case you missed that, you should click here to check it out. The film is currently going through the post-production process, and there are a ton of visual effects that need to be completed before the movie is released in 2016.

The director of the film, Duncan Jones, recently talked about the highly anticipated movie, and reveals that the focus of the movie will be on orcs and humans meeting for the first time.

This is what he had to say in an interview the Chinese movie news site Mtime (via: frakingfilms):

“From the moment I first talked to Blizzard, the plan was to start our film with the first time Orcs met Humans.  First contact! I think that for a world with so much newness to explain, this was a wise choice, especially when so many people in our audience may not know anything about Warcraft… it was important that some of our characters would be seeing the world fresh as well, and that the audience could see the situation through their eyes.”

The director went on to explain that both the humans and orcs will play an equally important part in the story he is telling.

“A Warcraft film should not be about a good race of humans battling an evil race of orcs!  Warcraft should be about heroes on both sides trying to avoid a conflict, when villains leave them no choice.”

I really like that. It's kind of the same thing that happened between humans and apes in Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. They also tried to avoid conflict and war, but there were villains on each side that made it impossible. Jones then goes on to say that he hopes his movie will kick off a successful franchise that people will want to see more of.

Peter Jackson did a magnificent job of ‘setting the table’ for Tolkien’s universe with his first Lord of the Rings film. I know that my job in this first film is to establish certain characters, places and culture while telling a story that a broad audience can be excited by! Hopefully, if I have done my job right, people will want to know and see more! There is certainly plenty more to tell! … I would love to be part of that process of expanding on the lore that makes up Warcraft, but it will all depend on what you, the audience, think of our first film!”

I think the movie definitely has the potential to be a successful franchise. It could be just as big or bigger than The Lord of the Rings. It will be interesting to see how audiences react to this epic new fantasy world, especially those who don't really know much about the game that the film is based on.

Warcraft is set to be released in theaters on March 11th, 2016.
