FANTASTIC FOUR Reboot will be a Coming of Age Story
It seems like a lot of fans are not happy with how director Josh Trank's Fantastic Four reboot is coming together in terms of the casting, and what we can expect from the story. I'm open to their interpretation of these characters. For the most part, it seems like there are a lot of people already turning their back on the movie, which is understandable since the first two FOX made left a bad taste in a lot of fans' mouths. I'm curious to see what they are actually planning.
In a recent interview with IGN and Den of Geek, producer Simon Kinberg offered a few more details on what we can expect to see in the movie, and I imagine some of you aren't going to like what he had to say.
When talking with Den of Geek he said:
"We’re definitely telling a younger story that the original films did. It depends on what books you look at. There are some, like the Ultimate books, that tell this story. So it is an origin story of the Fantastic Four, and it does follow them before they really know what a superhero is."
As far as the characters' ages go he said:
"They’re older than high school, but they’re not quite grown into the world. If anything, this is a coming of age story."
When asked whether fans will see the iconic sequence in which the Four gain their powers after being bombarded with cosmic rays during a space flight, Kinberg gave this little tease:
"There is archetypal imagery of how they get their powers, for sure, and it does involve some sort of scientific travel."
While talking to IGN, Kinberg revealed that the Fantastic Four won't even be referred to as The Fantastic Four in the reboot, and explained:
"This Fantastic Four movie is somewhat a reboot, and in other ways just a stand alone origin story. By the end of the movie we don't call them the Fantastic Four. They're not celebrity superheroes, the tone is much more grounded, real and gritty. More in the direction of Chronicle, than in the direction of the original Fantastic Four movies. So it is about really how four, and in some ways five with Victor Von Doom, how five people go from being normal people in the world to being transformed into something sort of when it it first happens abnormal, then by the end superhuman."
You can watch the video interview below if you want. I know there's a good chance this movie could turn out to be crap, but I am hoping that it surprises us all.
The movie is set to be released on June 19th, 2015, and so far it stars Miles Teller as Reed Richards, Kate Mara as Sue Storm, Michael B. Jordan as Johnny Storm, and Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm.
