First Story Details for INSIDIOUS: CHAPTER 4

I am such a huge fan of James Wan and Leigh Whannell’s Insidious horror film franchise. The first two films were absolute masterpieces. The third film was ok, but definitely not to the level of greatness of the films that preceded it.

The story will continue next year with Insidious: Chapter 4. This next chapter is being directed by a new director to the franchise named Adam Robitel (Taking of Deborah Logan), and he will direct from a script written by Whannell, who is also producing the film alongside Wan.

Thanks to actress Lin Shaye, we have some of the first plot details for the new film to share with you. During an interview with Daily Dead, she explained that the story will focus on her character starting the Spectral Sightings company with the characters Specs and Tucker. She says:

“[The film] goes back to Elise’s beginnings. And you also meet Elise at a very different point in her life. It takes place right after the end of Chapter 3, when she walks off with Specs and Tucker and they’re starting their company, Spectral Sightings, and they are now living at her home. They’re like her two sons, her two bad sons.
“So it starts out in a very jovial, happy place and then goes downhill from there. And downhill meaning uphill, though. It’s a fantastic story and it took me back into what made Elise who she is. You meet my family, my mother, my father—we go back to my hometown, which is in New Mexico. And so that’s where this takes place and her quest to find the bad guy that’s been haunting her. It’s a really wonderful story. I think the fans will really, really enjoy it. And it’s scary on levels they’re not going to expect.”

It already sounds like a better story than Chapter 3 because this one will actually center around characters in the franchise that fans know and like and will give us more of a background on them. Hopefully we also get to see some insanely terrifying nightmare fuel as we see their story continue to unfold!

Insidious: Chapter 4 will be released on October 20th, 2017.
