GAME OF THRONES' Eighth and Final Season Confirmed to Only Have 6 Episodes

Last year we learned that the final two seasons of Game of Thrones would consist of 13 to 15 episodes total. We now know what the final number is. It was already revealed that the upcoming seventh season will have seven episodes, now producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss have confirmed that the eighth and final season will only consist of six episodes.

The producers recently took part in a panel at SXSW, and according to EW, Benioff said:

“It’s only going to be six episodes for the final season. From the beginning we’ve wanted to tell a 70-hour movie. It will turn out to be a 73-hour movie, but it’s stayed relatively the same of having the beginning, middle and now we’re coming to the end. It would have been really tough if we lost any core cast members along the way, I’m very happy we’ve kept everyone and we get to finish it the way we want to.”

Damn, Game of Thrones is going to come to an end pretty quickly. It's hard to think that after this epic journey it's all going to end soon. I'm sure fans will get the satisfying ending that we've all been hoping for. One thing we should all be happy and excited about is the fact that Benioff and Weiss got to tell the entire story they wanted to tell.

They also confirmed that HBO might actually end up doing another Game of Thrones series, but they said that they won't be a part of it. Benioff said:

“I think HBO might well do [another series] and I look forward to watching it and I think it be great, but I think they should get new blood in."

The producers also confirmed that musician Ed Sheeran will have a cameo in season seven. Apparently, this is something they've been trying to set up as a surprise to Maisie Williams for years.

Last week it was announced that Game of Thrones season seven will premiere on July 16, 2017. Make sure to watch the promo teaser if you haven't seen it yet.
