HARRY POTTER AND THE CURSED CHILD Stage Production Details

For those devout Harry Potter fans out there, I have great news, especially if you are going to be in London next year. J.K. Rowling herself broke the news via Twitter that the play called Harry Potter And The Cursed Child will be hitting the Palace Theater in London next year. Here is what she had to say:

"Today is a very special day for two reasons, firstly, ‘Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone’ was published in the UK 18 years ago! I’m also very excited to confirm today that a new play called ‘Harry Potter and the Cursed Child’ will be opening in London next year. It will tell a new story, which is the result of a collaboration between writer Jack Thorne, director John Tiffany and myself. I don’t want to say too much more, because I don’t want to spoil what I know will be a real treat for fans. However, I can say that it is not a prequel! To answer one inevitable (and reasonable!) question – ‘Why isn’t ‘Cursed Child’ a new novel?’ – I am confident that when audiences see the play they will agree that it was the only proper medium for the story. I’ve had countless offers to extend Harry’s story over the years, but Jack, John and Sonia Friedman are a dream team! It has been a huge pleasure to share with them (and soon, with you!) this untold part of Harry’s story"

What is the story behind The Cursed Child? The Daily Mail gave us a little heads up:

"The Cursed Child delves into what happened to Harry’s parents — Lily Evans Potter and James Potter — before they were killed by Lord Voldemort, forcing an infant Harry to be raised in miserable circumstances by his mother’s sister, Petunia, her horrid husband Vernon and their spoiled son Dudley."

Based on that, it is interesting that she emphasizes that this will not be a prequel. Maybe it will be Harry searching the past through stories of those who knew his parents. The speculation is endless. All I know is that this will possibly be one of the biggest, if not the biggest plays of all time. I myself am a huge Harry Potter fan and hearing this made me check my bank account to see if I can make it to London next year.

I can’t wait to hear the reviews of this play. Keep in mind that this is not written by Rowling, but she fully endorses it and is producing the play. Gives me chills just thinking about it.

If you have not read the Harry Potter series, what the hell is wrong with you? Get on it! For those of you who are fans, read them again. Or better yet, listen to the audiobooks. There are two versions — one read by Stephen Fry and one read by Jim Dale. They are both perfect and should be experienced.
