Has the Main Villain of Marvel’s THE DEFENDERS Been Revealed?
As we already know, the Marvel Netflix series’ are all leading up to an epic team-up event called The Defenders. Daredevil, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, maybe the Punisher, and more will be teaming up to protect Hell’s Kitchen from some kind of villainous threat. We now might have an idea of who that villain could be. The following information comes from Screen Geek, which is a site I’m not really familiar with, so as of right now, this is just a big fat rumor.
The report claims that Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, and Luke Cage could be assembling to fight a villainous character named Mephisto. This character would bring more of a supernatural element into the Marvel Netflix universe. They say that one of the reasons this character is being considered is because it could help set up the next wave of Marvel Netflix shows, rumored to include Blade, Ghost Rider, and Moon Knight. Here’s the exact quote from their source:
“Marvel is talking about setting Mephisto as the prime antagonist for the Defenders. Some may say that this villain wouldn’t fit the TV shows but that’s why they’re incorporating Iron Fist – to set up the supernatural element. This would also help set up the next phase of the Netflix shows, as Moon Knight, Blade, and Ghost Rider are being considered.“
I’m honestly not really that familiar with Mephisto, but after reading up on him, he sounds like he would make a great and interesting villain for the team of Defenders to take on. Here’s a brief description of the character:
“Mephisto is an extradimensional demon of immense power who often poses as Satan. He continually schemes to make bargains with people for their souls. Mephisto especially covets the souls of heroes for their purity and has repeatedly sought the soul of the noble Silver Surfer. Mephisto has also contended with Thor, Doctor Strange, Daredevil, the Fantastic Four, and many others.”
A lot of fans have been speculating that the Defenders will battle The Hand, but Mephisto is definitely a more intriguing option. It would also expand on the supernatural element of the Marvel Universe that is being introduced in the upcoming Doctor Strange film. Again, this is only a rumor, nothing is confirmed, and it could be complete bullshit. But, what do you all think about the possibility of Mephisto being the villain in The Defenders?
