It Looks Like SAW: LEGACY Is Really Happening, and It's Shooting This Year

Movie Saw: Legacy by Joey Paur

Earlier this year it was reported that Lionsgate might be developing an eighth Saw film called Saw: Legacy. This was a very lucrative horror franchise for the studio. It was so lucrative that not even the last film in the franchise, Saw 3D: The Final Chapter, would be the last film. Lionsgate is hellbent on keeping this franchise alive!

The studio hired writers Josh Stolberg and Pete Goldfinger to draft a script for the new film. These are the writers behind films such as Sorority Row and Piranha 3D. We haven't heard much about the film project since that happened, and I figured it might have been scrapped. But today, thanks to Bloody-Disgusting, we've learned that film is gearing up to start shooting this September.

The production details were discovered on a listing at IATSE873, which is a site that supports a union of stage, theater, and movie employees/operators. It reveals that the film will be shot in Toronto. James Wan, Leigh Whannell, Dan Heffner, and Oren Koules are all original producers on the film, and they have all come back for this next installment.

I'm a fan of the first Saw movie. After that, things just went downhill. There's no word yet on who is directing the film, and there are no details on where the story for Saw: Legacy will go. It could be a prequel film giving us the origin story of Jigsaw, or it could be a completely new reimagining with some sort of copycat killer continuing to keep the legacy of Jigsaw alive.

Only time will tell. I'm kind of curious about learning how they will relaunch the franchise, but unless I get invited to a press screening, I probably won't watch it.
