James Frain Will Play Spock’s Father in STAR TREK: DISCOVERY

We've got some good news and bad news about the Star Trek: Discovery series that is currently in development at CBS. According to THR, the series has once again been delayed and will no longer premiere in May. They report:

“Production on Star Trek: Discovery begins next week. We love the cast, the scripts and are excited about the world the producers have created. This is an ambitious project; we will be flexible on a launch date if it’s best for the show. We’ve said from the beginning it’s more important to do this right than to do it fast. There is also added flexibility presenting on CBS All Access, which isn’t beholden to seasonal premieres or launch windows.”

The good news is that Spock's father Sarek will play a part in the series and he will be played by James Frain (Gotham, Orphan Black). The character has made several appearances throughout the franchise over the past five decades.

Frain will join the previously cast Sonequa Martin-Green (The Walking Dead) in the lead role; Doug Jones as Lt. Saru, a Starfleet Science Officer; Anthony Rapp as Lt. Stamets, an astromycologist, fungus expert, and Starfleet Science Officer; and Michelle Yeoh as Starfleet captain Georgiou.

There's not a lot of information regarding any plot details, but we know that Discovery will take place before the original Star Trek series.
