James Gunn Offers Update on GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY 2

James Gunn recently announced a new film project that he wrote a script for called The Belco Experiment. It was picked up by MGM and will be going into production in June. While this is all happening the filmmaker has also been hard at work on writing Guardians of the Galaxy 2.

One of the last updates he gave for the highly anticipated sequel was that Marvel said his idea for it was "risky," but they loved it. Gunn has now given a new update on where the film is currently at in development, via the Periscope social media broadcasting app. He recently turned in his treatment for the film, and it has been approved by Marvel.

“I turned in my treatment. I’m going in to meet about it Friday and we will start working on the screenplay next week."

He also offered a few bits of other information about the movie, saying that Ronan the Accuser is definitely dead and is officially gone for good in the movie universe.  I enjoyed Lee Pace's portrayal of this character, and it kind of sucks that we won't seem him again, but he did die.

He went on to explain that the sequel will have a strong focus on characterizing the Guardians. The fans will get to know the characters in a "deeper way" this next time around. As for Karen Gillan's Nebula, Gunn may have found a way for her to play the villain without shaving her head again.

There were a few non-Guardians of the Galaxy things he talked about, as well. Some of those include his excitement regarding Spider-Man joining the MCU, how he like the trailer for the new Fantastic Four movie, and that his favorite supervillain is Heath Ledger's Joker.

Guardians of the Galaxy 2 will be released on May 5th, 2017.
