Jon Hamm on Why He Won't Be a Superhero

Jon Hamm has been rumored to be in the running for many superhero roles. With his name quickly getting removed again and again. Despite all that, fans have continued to campaign for him to be various heroes.

Hamm on Radio Times reveals why he's never taken up any possible offers:

"The deals that they make you do are so draconian. And, of course, you are signed on for not only the movie that you are signed on for… but at least two more that you haven’t read and you have no idea what they are going to be and all the crossover ones you are going to have to do.

For me to sign on now to do a superhero movie would mean I would be working until I am 50 as that particular superhero. It's a lot of work at one thing which is not necessarily the reason I got into the business which is to do many things. If you want to spend all day pressing the same key that ... seems an odd choice."

In another interview Hamm said that he has "crazy respect" for those who can do it and do it well. Hamm brings up a lot of good points, and setting yourself be completely at the control of the studio sounds very unattractive.

If Hamm doesn't want to be a hero with all the risk that it entails, maybe he should play a villain. Those roles, with the exception of Tom Hiddleston as Loki, are one-and-done commitments. At the very least, we'll have years of random Hamm cameos to look forward to.
