Martin Freeman Shares Details on His CAPTAIN AMERICA: CIVIL WAR Character

We still aren't exactly 100% sure who Martin Freeman is playing in Captain America: Civil War, but the last rumor we heard was that he's playing a character named Edward Chase, who is the MCU's Prime Minister of England.

In a recent interview with BadTaste. It, Freeman doesn't reveal who he'll be playing, but he does provide a little new information on the character, and it doesn't sound like the Prime Minister type. Here's what he said:

“He works for the American government. He works in conjunction with the superheroes, and certain agencies that help to tame the superheroes’ power, I suppose. So you’re not quite sure which side he’s on. It looks a little bit like he’s playing one game when actually he’s playing another. It’s the kind of character I like because it’s ambiguous and because you don’t know whether he’s good or bad. I like that area that isn’t black or white, I like the grays, because I think there’s just more fun to be had in not playing one obvious line.”

It sounds a lot more like the character could at least be inspired by the comic book character Everett Ross, which is who Freeman was originally rumored to be playing.

In the comics, Ross is a US Government agent who is assigned to work in Wakanda, which is where Black Panther resides. Ross is an expert in all things Wakanda and works alongside government agencies and Special Forces teams.

Chris Evans is set to return as Steve Rogers/Captain America, and will be joined by Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff/Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson/Falcon, Paul Bettany as The Vision, Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton/Hawkeye, Don Cheadle as Jim Rhodes/War Machine, and Elizabeth Olsen as Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch.

Sebastian Stan will also return as Bucky Barnes/Winter Soldier alongside Chadwick Boseman as T’Challa/Black Panther, Emily VanCamp as Sharon Carter/Agent 13, Daniel Brühl as Baron Helmut Zemo, Frank Grillo as Brock Rumlow/Crossbones, William Hurt as General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, and Paul Rudd as Scott Lang/Ant-Man. Tom Holland will be making his big screen debut as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.

Captain America: Civil War picks up where Avengers: Age of Ultron left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.

The Joe and Anthony Russo directed film is set to be released on May 6th, 2016.
