NASA Releases Most Detailed and Colorful Photo of The Universe
Sometimes you just have to pause for a moment and take in the mind-blowing awesomeness of the universe in which our little planet resides. NASA has released the most colorful and detailed view of the universe so far, and it's beautiful. The photo was captured by the Hubble Space Telescope. This is part of a study being conducted called the Ultraviolet Coverage of the Hubble Ultra Deep Field, and it's described as "a composite of separate exposures taken in 2003 to 2012 with Hubble's Advanced Camera for Surveys and Wide Field Camera 3."
One of my favorite subjects in college was astronomy because of how much it melted my brain with insanely cool information. Here are some more details on the photo that was taken:
The resulting image — made from 841 orbits of telescope viewing time — contains approximately 10,000 galaxies, extending back in time to within a few hundred million years of the big bang.
According to Gizmodo, NASA explains that until now astronomers didn't have enough data "for the period in between, when most of the stars in the universe were born — a distance extending from about 5 billion to 10 billion light-years."
The principal investigator of the project, Harry Teplitz, from Caltech in Pasadena, California says that "the addition of the ultraviolet fills in this missing range."
