Natalie Portman's Troubled Western JANE GOT A GUN Getting 2016 Release

Jane Got A Gun, the new western starring Natalie Portman, has experienced setbacks before it even began filming. Original director Lynne Ramsay never showed up to work on the first day of shooting, so the production had to shut down until Warrior director Gavin O'Connor came in to take over. After some cast ended up leaving the production, they finally got underway with Portman, Joel Edgerton, Ewan McGregor, and Noah Emmerich in place. Things seemed to be fine after that, and a release date of September 4th was set, but then Relativity Media, the film's distributor, went bankrupt, leaving the movie's future in question.

Variety is reporting that The Weinstein Company ended up securing the rights to the movie just before Relativity's bankruptcy, and they'll release the film in the United States in February of 2016, a few months after it makes its European debut this November. There's no specific date set yet, but it's good news that someone sees some value in the movie even after all of that behind-the-scenes trouble. Let's hope it's worth the wait.
