New PREDATOR Reboot Is Actually a Sequel

We recently learned that Shane Black is set to write and produce a new Predator movie for 20th Century Fox. It was initially reported that this would be a franchise reboot, but that isn't what's actually happening.

According to Collider, Black and his co-writer Fred Dekker will actually be developing and "envisioning" an "inventive sequel." The site got that information from the director himself. He went on to explain to them:

“As far as Fred and I are concerned anyway, why start over, when you’ve got all this rich mythology yet to mine?”

Black said that he doesn’t care for reboots in general, and that they can “really get behind inventive sequels" and that they like "the idea of expanding and exploring the existing Predator mythology, rather than hitting the restart button."

The filmmaker is having "a blast" writing the screenplay for the movie with Dekker. In case you didn't know, the two worked together on classic '80s film Monster Squad, which makes this team up and Predator project even more awesome.

I'm relieved to hear that this will be a sequel and not a reboot. I was fine either way with Black on board the project, but this bit of news makes me even happier about it. It's going to be great to see what they come up with!
