Ryan Reynolds Moves Into Smaller Role as Jake Gyllenhaal Takes The Lead in Sci-Fi Film LIFE

Right after Deadpool hit theaters, word came out that star Ryan Reynolds would be reuniting with writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick and his Safe House director Daniel Espinosa for a sci-fi thriller called Life. That reunion is still in play, but instead of playing the lead role in the movie, Reynolds has slid into a supporting role while Jake Gyllenhaal has taken over as the protagonist.

THR reports that Reynolds had a scheduling conflict with another film, Hitman's Bodyguard, and that's why he's having to take on a smaller role in Life, which focuses on a space station crew that finds a lifeform on Mars that turns out to be both intelligent and dangerous. Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation's Rebecca Ferguson is on board to co-star, and the story is said to be an ensemble piece, which makes sense when you consider that the actors will all be playing members of the space station crew. Gyllenhaal has done some of his best work over the past few years, so even though Reynolds is getting bumped down a little, this project is lucky to have such a great cast in place. Here's hoping Espinosa can pull all of the elements together into something great.
