Sam Riley in Talks to Play the Villain in GHOST IN THE SHELL Movie

Sam Riley (Maleficent, Control) is in talks to join Scarlett Johansson in DreamWorks' live-action big screen adaptation of Ghost in the Shell. If everything works out and he jumps on board the project, he will be taking on the role of The Laughing Man.

The story follows a female special ops cyborg (Johansson) who leads a counter-cyberterrorist organization called Public Security Section 9 for Hanka Robotics. This special force is dedicated to taking down the most dangerous criminals and extremists, who are led by The Laughing Man (Riley). His goal is to do everything he can to destroy Hanka’s advancements in cyber technology.

According to Deadline, both the actor and the studio want to make a deal happen. If that's the case, I'm sure we'll get a confirmation soon enough. Ghost in the Shell is set to be directed by Rupert Sanders (Snow White And The Huntsman), and I really hope he has what it takes to pull off something awesome. Avi Arad and Steven Paul are producing the film, and the script was written by Jonathan Herman (Straight Outta Compton).

Riley is a very talented young actor, who would make a great addition to the cast that also includes Johansson’s Lucy co-star Pilou Asbæk. Riley will next be seen in the film Pride And Prejudice And Zombies.
