Sigourney Weaver On Why ALIEN VS PREDATOR Depressed Her

Alien vs. Predator was a low point of the Alien franchise. Those films sucked ass. A lot of fans didn't care for them, and Sigourney Weaver admits that they depressed her. While attending London Film and Comic-Con this last weekend, she shared her thoughts on the film saying:

"I heard that Fox was gonna do Alien vs. Predator, which really depressed me because I was very proud of the movies."

Many of the fans who saw that movie when it was released left the theater depressed as well. The movie was directed by Paul W.S. Anderson, who went on to direct several other crappy movies. The actress went on to say:

"I’ve nothing against building a movie on a video game, but at the time it was, as Jim Cameron said, I think publicly, ‘Why would you want to do that?' It’s like making Alien meets the Wolfman.”

She went on to say that crossover event was responsible for Ridley Scott dropping out of making another proper Alien sequel. Seriously! Here's what she said:

“In fact Ridley Scott was about to direct a third one, until this was announced, and he dropped out, because he also wanted to do an Alien sequel.”

That directing gig eventually went to David Fincher, which famously turned out to be a huge studio mess. She then said that the Alien vs. Predator film "caused more problems than it was worth.”

She's excited about what Neill Blomkamp is doing with his Alien film, though! Weaver will reprise her role in as Lt. Ellen Ripley in the movie, and this is what she said about it:

“I’m so excited about Neill -- because Neill is like you guys! He broke the tapes of these movies when he was a kid, he watched them so much. I love the fact that’s Neill’s fulfilling his childhood dream of what he hopes will be the popcorn movie, the Alien popcorn movie that he wanted as a kid to see.”

When talking about her character, and if Ripley would ever get a happy ending she said:

“Well — it’s certainly something we’ve discussed. I agree, she’s had kind of a crap life. Many interruptions.”

I'm excited about Blomkamp's Alien movie. There's no way it could be any worse than the Alien vs. Predator films, Alien 3, or Alien Resurrection. To read what she had to say about the Ghostbusters reboot, head on over to Radio Times.
