Supreme Leader Snoke Is Said to Be an Animatronic Puppet in STAR WARS: EPISODE VIII

Supreme Leader Snoke is one of the characters in the Star Wars universe who is still shrouded in mystery. He was introduced in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and there's so much that we don't know about him.

All we saw of him was in the form of a giant hologram towering over Kylo Ren and General Hux as he counseled them. The character was played by Andy Serkis, and it was clearly CG motion capture work.

Making Star Wars is now reporting that the villainous character will return for Star Wars: Episode VIII, but apparently this time he will be brought to life in the form of a "huge puppet around seven to eight feet tall, taking several people to operate and a man inside a suit to make him walk." They say that his facial expressions will even be done practically and arebeing operated by a crew on the set, which is pretty damn cool. I imagine that the character will be augmented by some CG work as well.

I love that Lucasfilm and the filmmakers are completely embracing practical effects for these new Star Wars films! There's no word on how big of a role Snoke will play in Episode VIII or how much screen time he'll have in his real life form, but if this is true it will be cool to see!

I imagine that Kylo Ren, General Hux, and Captain Phasma will all at some point have to meet with Snoke to figure out what their next move is after the Resistance blew up their giant Starkiller Base. I wonder if we'll get to see Snoke fight in the film. That would be interesting.

There are so many theories about who Snoke could be, but we'll just have to wait to see if any of them will be proven right. Rian Johnson is directing the film, and it's set to be released on December 15th, 2017.
