Taylor Swift is the latest addiction to the cast of Jeff Bridges' big screen adaptation of The Giver. She joins Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, Brenton Thwaites, and Katie Holmes.
The film is based on the classic book written by Lois Lowry, and the story is set in a "colorless dystopian society that enforces Sameness and fears freedom. All memory of human history has been erased, emotion does not exist, and citizens' professions are chosen for them."
Thwaites is playing the main character Jonas, the "community's Receiver of Memories who spends his days being mentored by the Giver (Bridges), who teaches him to confront and understand the lies that inform society. As Jonas comes to grips with living an unsheltered existence, he begins to acquire a taste for freedom and honesty, becoming an outcast in the process."
Streep is playing the community's Chief Elder, who maintains order in the seemingly utopian society. Skarsgard is playing Jonas' father, Monaghan will play Jonas' best friend, Asher, and Holmes will play Thwaites' character's mother.
The report doesn't specify who Swift is playing, and I think they could have gotten a better young actress to be in the movie, but they are obviously looking to appeal to a tween audience.
The movie is set to be released on August 15th, 2014.
