The Director of I SAW THE DEVIL Will Helm SECRET SERVICE Next

Kim Jee-Woon is one hell of talented director. He hails from South Koren and has developed such films as I Saw the Devil and The Good, the Bad, and the Weird. If you haven’t seen either of those movies yet, you really need to watch them as soon as you get a chance.

Variety is reporting that his next film will be a period drama called Secret Agent, and it will star Song Kang-ho, who had the lead in the action martial arts western, The Good, The Bad, The Weird and also had a major role in Snowpiercer.

According to the report, the story is set in Korea in the 1930s during the Japanese colonial era. Twitch adds that the film’s story is also inspired by the history of Organization of Righteous Bravery, “a part of the armed independence movement during Korea under Japanese rule.”

This is the first Korean-language film that Warner Bros. will finance and distribute. Production is expected to begin in October and knowing the kind of filmmaking and storytelling this guy is capable of, I’m expecting something great.

The last film that Jee-Woon made was The Last Stand with Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was his first English-language film, and it wasn’t his best. I don’t hold it against him, though.
