TRON: LEGACY Director to Helm THE TRIALS OF WHITE BOY RICK

Tron: Legacy and Oblivion director Joseph Kosinski is looking to take on a very different, non sci-fi project called The Trials of White Boy Rick. The movie is based on an article written by Evan Hughes, and it tells a true-crime story that centers on a teen named Rick Wershe who lived in Detroit in the 1980s. He ended up joining "the ranks of the drug kingpins on the predominantly black East Side to become a prolific cocaine trafficker, going by the name 'White Boy Rick.'"

I'd never heard of this story until today, but the report goes on to say that it uncovers the true identity of Wershe, who became one of the biggest drug dealers in the city while working undercover for the FBI and DEA.

This sounds like it will make for an interesting film, and I'm glad that Kosinski is taking it on as a project. I know it's not a big, epic, visually awesome sci-fi movie, but one things that the director needs to develop are his storytelling and writing skills. Those have been the weakest aspects of his other films. A movie like this will allow him to focus on story and character more than what the special effects will look like. I think Konsinki can be an incredible filmmaker, and a movie like this is a step in the right direction for him. I can't wait to see what he does with it.
