13 GOING ON 30 is Still in the Works to Hit Broadway With a Future Performance on Live TV

The 2004 romantic comedy 13 Going On 30 became an instant classic as soon as it came out. It’s still a funny and sweet movie that I love to watch 15 years later, and it’s apparently still a moneymaker with life left to take it to the stage and screen. Deadline reported three years ago that the film was going to be made into a Broadway musical. The treatment has worked well for the film turned Broadway show Legally Blonde, and 13 Going On 30 has a similar feel-good formula that would translate well to the stage.

The film and Broadway producer, Vince Totino, executive producer of Fox’s Emmy-nominated Rent: Live, said that once the story of 13 Going On 30 hits the stage, he would love to give audiences a live showing on Fox. Here’s what Totino had to say about the project:

“Revolution has really large library of pictures, and we’re always looking for things to develop for a sequel (or) derivative projects,” Totino told Deadline. “13 Going on 30 is a fantastic movie that people loved and are still reacting to today… First it has to make the stage and theater, and once that occurs, who knows? It could come back as a live show. I would love for that to happen.”

I’m a fan of the movie, but I’m not sure that the live shows really translate. I haven’t seen a live TV musical yet that I thought compared to the film or stage versions. It’s difficult to get the same feeling as when you hear music live in front of you, or polished in a film. So I don’t know that it’s the greatest idea, but no one asked me. I’ll probably just go back and rewatch the movie. What about you? Would you like to see 13 Going On 30 on the stage and live on TV?
