For the guy Directing Spider-Man he sure don't know much about it

by Joey Paur

Sam Raimi who has signed on officially to direct Spider-Man 4 & 5 sure doesn't know a lot about what is going on with the project. He recently talked a little bit about the next step in the Spider-Man franchise but pretty much revealed has no idea what is going on yet.

We know Toby Maguire is set to star as Peter Parker again but what about Kirsten Dunst? She says she's interested but...

"Kirsten, I'd love to work with her again, I hope she'll be written into it. I couldn't imagine making one without her, and I think she's an important part of the movies."

So he has no say in what goes on with the script? He can't say "hey! I want Kirsten back in."? not that it matters to me I could care less if her character comes back. I'm just sayin. Raimi admits that the nature of an episodic series requires that characters come and go.

"I wish I could work with James Franco again, But his character died in the last one; same with Uncle Ben. Fortunately, we've been able to bring back all the dead characters [like Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn or Cliff Robertson as Ben Parker]. I can't let them go, in each and every picture; but it gets harder and harder."

Do you think Kirsten should come back for more Mary Jane?
I am trying to figure out what Raimi means when he says:

"I'm really excited about Spider-Man, and I'm hoping to direct it, I don't have a script yet, but production would start probably by March of 2010, I'm guessing. It sounds like a long time away, but we need a script first, and a lot of pre-production has to take place."

He's hoping to direct it?? But, I thought? Hold on. He is directing it isn't he? This interview was just posted on MTV. Was it conducted before he was officially signed on? I'm not sure. Why would they post a old interview now? As with shooting the 2 Spidy films back to back he says:

"That had been talked about, It's Amy Pascal's decision. I don't think it has been decided yet, and she's the one that's really going to make that decision; I'm really curious myself... If Tobey and me, and all the producers, like the story for two pictures and Amy wanted to do it, then we would do it. It just hasn't been written yet."

As for the next villain and actor Dylan Baker as Curt Connors Raimi says:

"He's a great actor, and I think one day The Lizard's story will be told, I don't know if it will be this one or not. I just don't know. I'm definitely hoping to work with Dylan in the picture. I just don't know who the villain is yet."

One day the Lizard story will be told? What the hell does that mean? This whole interview that MTV conducted with Raimi is so out of whack and make no sense as to why Raimi is so clueless as to what is going on. He has had a hand in all the Spider-Man stories but have they completely cut him out of this one because of part 3? He pretty much says when the script is finished he will know more. But shouldn't he be a huge part in what story gets told?

I don't mean to bag on Raimi the guy is a great director I just don't know what?... please explain to me what you think is going on here. This article confused the hell out of me.
