Yogi Bear headed to the Big Screen
I'm surprised it took Warner Bros. this long to get this movie going. Yogi Bear is an old school Hanna-Barbera animated classic. The film is going to be a live action/animated hybrid like Alvin and the Chipmunks. 'Surfs Up' co-director and writer Ash Brannon will helm the project. I thought 'Surf Up' was a great animated movie. THR reports:
Endeavor-repped Joshua Sternin and Jeffrey Ventimilia, who exec produced "That '70s Show" and are writing the feature "Tooth Fairy" for Fox, are penning the screenplay. Donald De Line is producing via his De Line Pictures; Karen Rosenfelt is also producing, with Jon Berg overseeing for Warners.
The project, culled from Warners' vast library, is planned as a live-action/animated hybrid along the lines of Fox's 2007 hit "Alvin & the Chipmunks." Much of the movie will be live-action, but Yogi Bear and sidekick Boo Boo will be done in CG.
Yogi's exploits take place in Jellystone Park, where he and Boo Boo get into good-natured mischief and must elude their nemesis, Ranger Smith.
Yogi Bear has been around since 1958. Not many kids today know who this crazy bear is, but they will find out soon enough. I always found Yogi Bear to be a bit of a bore. Maybe they will throw Yogi and Boo-Boo into some crazy crime capper where someone other than Yogi is stealing the picnic baskets and it needs to stop because some one is infringing on Yogi's trademark. Once caught it will make a great courtroom drama.
