Even 'The Hobbit' Might be up for a 3D & IMAX treatment
Yeah, not surprising considering that most big budget movies now are considering the same thing. 'The Hobbit' has now joined the ranks of films that wouldn't mind going 3D & IMAX if they could. I have seen rumors online that it has already been planned to get the IMAX & 3D makeover, but it has not... yet. Guillermo Del Toro talked a little bit to MTV about what is on his mind regarding this.
"IMAX is a fantastic medium. I am a shareholder. I love IMAX. I remember seeing ‘Polar Express,' and then seeing ‘Polar Express' in 3D and IMAX and having my life completely transformed, I think it would be a worthy discussion. But it hasn't arrived."
Uh, oh he's a shareholder! It sounds to me like if the coversation did come up, and it most likely will, Del Toro will push for it.
"I think that we are experienced enough, I guess would be the term, to know that we should not daydream about [things like that] when we write the screenplay," he said of whether or not he was even flirting with 3D or IMAX as possibilities. "Right now what we have is, you don't have two filmmakers and two screenplay writers - you have four screenplay writers. We'll be talking about 3D, on IMAX - but [not] right now."
So now that we know that this is going to be discussed and a very big possiblity of 'The Hobbit' going 3D, IMAX what do you think? I think IMAX would be amazing! I would love to see that. As for 3D I stand on neutral ground. If they do it great, if they don't do it great. I don't really care how I get to watch the movie as long as it is freaking brilliant! I don't think we have anything to worry about with that though. These guys obviously know what they are doing.
