Ridley Scott set to Direct 'Monopoly' movie???

by Joey Paur

This is some incredibly odd news and I am not sure if this makes any sense. In a world where turning video games into movies is getting bigger and more popular, it looks like someone is taking a step back to the old school board games. It looks like Hasbro and Universal are putting the 'Monopoly' Film based on the popular board game on the fast track, and Ridley Scott is going to direct it. Thats what THR is reporting.

The feature project has brought on Pamela Pettler to write the screenplay; She penned Tim Burton's "Corpse Bride," Gil Kenan's "Monster House" and the upcoming animated adventure "9," produced by Burton and Timur Bekmambetov.

And Ridley Scott, who has been attached as a producer on "Monopoly" and has been mentioned as a possible director, is now officially attached to helm the project, with an eye toward giving it a futuristic sheen along the lines of his iconic "Blade Runner."

Whaaaaaaa? Would this be one of those Special Edition Monopoly games? Monopoly: Blade Runner Edition? The screenwriter seems to have written some really good animated movies, so I don't know if they plan a live action or animated version. This news seems so out in left field I am not sure if it is even true. What do you think? I think Ridley Scott could find something better to direct. Hell, I don't even like Monopoly.
