Well, you knew it was going to happen! Don't act so surprised. On it's opening day 'Twilight' brought in 35.7 million dollars! 7 million of that was just from the midnight shows. Summit Entertainment has a huge hit and money maker on their hands, and I will bet that all four twilight books will get the movie treatment. Variety reports:
"New Moon" is the second title in the series and is centered on Edward Cullen leaving Bella Swan in order to keep her safe from other vampires. Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart play the leads in the film.
"I don't think any other author has had a more positive experience with the makers of her movie adaptation than I have had with Summit Entertainment," Meyer said in a statement.
"Twilight" had been expected to open in the $50 million to $60 million range, although it looks likely to end up above that.
So it looks like the two leads will be back for the sequel so twilighters can get excited about that. I am shocked the studio had such low expectations for the film. Hell I even knew it would most likely break $70 million this weekend. So there you have it folks the sequel is official. I am also willing to bet that they are going to pump more money into the sequel and do a much better job it will most likely be better than the first one.
