The Dude Reviews: Four Christmases

by thedude

As a Dude, I have a natural predisposition to not like these romantic comedy/ holiday feelgood movies. Let me rephrase that, I have a natural predisposition not to WANT to like them. If you are a man I do not need to explain why this is so. Ladies, just roll with it. Suffice it to say that it normally is just not our cup of tea. Oober successful hot girl with cute friends.... doesnt want to be hurt again.....laid back cute guy.....they learn what love truly is.... yeah it gets old. Now this being said, I will step up to the plate and admit that there have been a few romantic comedies/holiday feelgood movies/whatever the hell you wanna call em that I have had a soft spot for while sifting through the genre over the years. Examples include: "You've Got Mail" (or anything with Tom Hanks really), "Serendipity" (John Cusak is the man), and believe it or not "Just Like Heaven" (I have a thing for Reese Witherspoon and I sometimes have head conversations with Mark Ruffalo). This list is not exclusive. Four Christmases has just made the cut.

The tag line to 'Four Christmases' is as follows; "His father, her mother, his mother, her father all in one day." The plot needs no more explaination. In fact, if you saw the trailer, you can probably piece together the major points on your own. Nuts to plot in this film, it doent matter. All that matters in this film, and all you need to know to see it is that Vince Vaughn, Reese Witherspoon, John Favreau, Robert DuVall, Sissy Spacek, John Voight and Olive Snook from 'Pushing Daisies' got together and made a comedy. Jerry, I tells ya its gold.

Vince Vaughn is a funny human being. In order to multiply that hilarity by two hundred the writers of this film dress him up as a cockey Joseph of Nazareth and let him do his thing. Hilarity ensues.

Reese Witherspoon plays a loveable and funny GF of Vaughn. Who doesn't like Reese? Especially a Reese Witherspoon who has the post traumatic stress of being a former fat child.

I very much recommend "Four Christmases" for your holiday viewing pleasure. If nothing else, it will supply you with a few one liners you can spout off and pretend you made them up. See it.
