Dr. Venkman Reviews: 'Fanboys'
This poor movie has been beaten down, cut apart, put back together, almost killed, nursed back to health, sent to limbo, but at least its not dead yet. Recent news on the film indicates that Kyle Newman the director of 'Fanboys' has been brought back to make a final cut of the film for the Wienstein company. Apparently they didn't wan the director around when they re-cut and ruin the movie. No one knows if the the movie is going to get a theatrical release or a DVD release. It would be a shame if this movie did not make it to theaters, there is a huge audience out there for it. There is also so much crap that gets released in theaters these days that should have never gotten made in the first place. This movie better make it to the big screen!
I had the privilege of being able to see a cut of this film on the big screen not to long ago. I really enjoyed this movie. It is a movie for Star Wars fans, and movie geeks like me. This movie will end up having a huge cult following. The movie hasn't even been released yet and it already seems to have a cult following. The audience will able to connect with the characters in this film. The characters were really flushed out and they were not hollow shells. You care for these guys and enjoy watching the adventure they set out on. For those of you who don't know what the film is about, it follows a group of young, hard core Star Wars fans, who drive cross-country to honor the wish of their dying friend, and that is to raid George Lucas' Skywalker Ranch, and watch "Star Wars: Episode 1- The Phantom Menace" in its perfect setting before he dies. This is the version I saw. I heard shortly afterward they changed it so their friend was not going to die. That is a terrible idea! It was the heart of the movie, the element that made it real and believable. I hope that since they brought in the director of the movie back in to do the final edit, he will be able to do it the way he intended it to be seen. The director knows what is best for his film. I hate that Hollywood steps in to ruin their vision.
This movie also has a great cast with cameos all over the place! The main cast includes Sam Huntington as Eric, Chris Marquette as Linus, Dan Fogler as Hutch, Jay Baruchel as Windows, and Kristen Bell as Zoe. All of the main cast members are very good in this movie, and you really like the caharacters they play. Cameos include Seth Rogen, Carrie Fisher, Danny Trejo, Ray Park, William Shatner, Jaime King, Christopher McDonald, and Billy Dee Williams. All of the cameos are used in a fun way and wont disappoint.
The movie is mostly a comedy, but it has its dramatic elements as well. Its a classic road trip coming of age film with Star Wars fans. I really enjoyed watching this movie. One day it will be released and when it does make sure you go and see it! If you are a Fanboy or Fangirl you are going to love the hell out of this movie! I did.
