Mark Wahlberg as Max Payne

Venkman Here - The Video Game adapted movie Max Payne is currently in production and is set to be released on October 17th. The movie stars Mark Wahlberg as the man himself Max Payne. There are a few Pics that have hit the web that give you a glympes, of what you can expect from this movie. The best role Mark Wahlberg has had so far and the best performance he has given to date was his role in ‘The Departed' in which he was nominated for best supporting actor. He was great in that movie! But I could not stand him in ‘The Happening'. Its all about what the director is looking for. If you have a crappy director you get crappy acting. John Moore is the director of Max Payne. He has directed ‘The Omen' (New Version) ‘Fight of the Phoenix' and ‘Behind Enemy Lines'. He seems like an ok director so far. I think he will be able to show what he's really got with Max Payne. Mark recently talked with MTV about the Role he is playing:

"Max Payne is not a one-trick pony. It's probably one of the edgier roles I've played but also the most layered. Here's a very happy guy who worked a dismal job, had a beautiful family. But the beauty in his life was taken away. He just goes on a rampage. It's all driven by emotion."

I think this role is a great fit for Wahlberg. This could also be a defining role for him. Will it out do his performance in ‘The Departed'? I guess we'll have to wait and see. The story of Max Payne is as follows:

Max Payne returning home to find several drug junkies high on a new drug called Valkyr in his home, who promptly attack him. After dispatching them all, he finds that his wife and newborn daughter have been killed by the junkies.

Three years later, Max is an undercover cop working for the DEA, investigating the Punchinello Mafia family, who is responsible for the trafficking of Valkyr.

This film is a revenge story. And a good one. I really liked the story line behind the video game. If they change it around thats cool. I am not a die hard fan as long as the final product and story is solid I'm good. They have a great property to work with, and I think the movie is going to be pretty kick ass.
