Cage and Brosnan to team up with the infamous Polanski
The name of Roman Polanski is like a double-edged sword. This guy is truly a visionary. I am not sure if anyone else has an eye like his. If the only film that he worked on was "Chinatown", then he would be considered one of the best film makers to walk this earth. Then you add movies like "Rosemary's Baby", "The Tenant", and "The Piano", and you have a legend. But then you have the other edge of the sword. The rape conviction that has caused him to run away never to set foot on American Soil again. There is no way to sugar coat what he has done. He stole the innocence of a young lady, and the dude doesn't have the nuts to take the punishment for the crime. Enough with my personal feelings, lets get to his new projects.
Polanski is currently working on a project called "The Ghost". It is based on a book by the same name, written by Richard Harris. The book is about a ghostwriter hired to write the memoirs of an ex-Prime Minister. MTV is reporting that Pierce Brosnan and Nicholas Cage are connected to this project. Brosnan will be the ex-Prime Minister and Cage will play the ghostwriter. MTV gives us a little synopsis on what it is about:
A thriller and then some, and right in Polanski’s wheelhouse. Inspired in part by Tony Blair, the novel picks up steam when the ghostwriter learns privileged details about a scandal which threatens to engulf the ex-Prime Minister. Soon, he finds himself in personal jeopardy, and must learn to balance his commitments to Lang with his own safety.
Most of the story takes place in an oceanfront house in the middle of winter.
The plot sounds like something that I can get into. But because of my personal feelings, I am not sure that I can support this film. I will definitely read the book, but I might miss the film. There is no doubt that the film will be legendary. I will not say that Polanski doesn't have the chops to do this film right. I just don't feel that anyone should support a man that will not take responsabilty for his actions. No one, not even a legend, has the right to get away with what he has. Let me know what you think.
