Its Official! Robert Downey Jr. will Play Sherlock Holmes!

Wow it actually happened! Robert Downey Jr. is set to play Sherlock Holmes in Guy Ritchies 'Sherlock Holmes' movie that is going down over at Warner Bros! How about them apples! Here is what Variety Reports:

Downey committed to the pic, which begins shooting in October, after Ritchie turned in a polish of a script written by Anthony Peckham.

Lionel Wigram and Dan Lin are producing with Susan Downey and Joel Silver will be executive producer.

Much the way that "Iron Man" launched Downey as an action star, "Sherlock Holmes" will also take advantage of his physical skills as the character displays brawn as well as brains.

Well, the script must have been good for Robert to sign on the dotted line. This is great news! This will be Robert's first acting gig since Iron Man. Not a bad choice. So far things are shaping up really nice for this movie. Guy Ritchie has got 'RocknRolla' opening up soon and it looks like its gonna be a great film hopefully his name picks back up some Buzz as a director. As for Robert being in the film that might just be Buzz enough to get the audience into the theaters.
