Batman: The Dark Knight is by far the best movie of the year among the rest of the films that have come out. I was blown away by ‘The Dark Knight'! I knew it was going to be amazing but I didn't know it would do what it did to me. I didn't read one review for this movie prior to seeing it. Not even the review our own R.P. McMurphy wrote. I went in not knowing what anyone thought of the film as a whole, I wanted to go in clean so that I could enjoy everything that may have been spoiled in the reviews and I am so happy I did.
The Dark Knight was a complex film that dealt with human nature and carried a heavy moral weight to it. This is the strongest story I have seen this year, and it carried meaning and substance. I honestly was not expecting that kind of difficult moral dilemma, which is set up in this movie.
The movie is dark and disturbing, but here is a light at the end of the tunnel. The movie really isn't about Batman, The Joker, or Two face, yes they are characters that movie the story along but the movie is about the people of Gotham City. Who are these people? Is Gotham an evil city? Who is their inspiration? Who encourages them to be what they are?
The Joker sees the worst in people, and he is out there to prove a point. That people will cross the limits and break the rules when pushed into a corner by a crazed maniac. He plays all sides. The guy is the crazy amazing manipulator. Heath Ledger as The Joker in ‘The Dark Knight' is scary as hell and incredibly fun to watch! He steals every scene he is in. His performance is the best performance I have scene in a long time. Of course I heard he was good, but actually seeing it on screen, I was in awe watching Heath work his magic. There was a lot of uncomfortable laughter because of how awesome he was as The Joker, he just did some terrible, terrible things that you can help but laugh at to ease the uneasiness. This guy was evil. His voice, his laugh, the way he talked, and even the way he carried himself. One of my favorite performances of all time is Edward Norton in ‘American History X' but I am here to tell you that I think Heath Ledgers performance outdoes Ed Norton. I will need to see the movie a few more times before I make that comment official. But I could not believe how great he was. I only wish he would have been in the movie more.
I enjoyed every frame of this film. But it was the first real introduction of the Joker when he met up with all the Mob Bosses of Gotham where I just got lost in the film. I don't want to give anything away but The Joker performs a magic trick that is one of the best I have ever seen. After that I knew I was going to be in for one hell of a ride.
I also had the opportunity to see The Dark Knight in IMAX. And I just want to tell you that if you get the opportunity to see it in IMAX take it. You wont be disappointed.
As for the rest of the acting it was all great! Christian Bale was once again amazing as Batman and Bruce Wayne. He really worked on that deep and rugged Batman voice of his though. Aaron Eckhart was a perfect fit for Harvey Dent and Two-Face. And that Two-Face make up and effects they used was absolutely incredible! I couldn't have asked for anything better. It was perfect. I loved that look! Maggie Gyllenhaal as Rachel Dawes was so much better than Katie Holmes. I thought Holmes was the weakest link in the first Nolan Batman flick. Maggie was great though she was so much more believable as a lawyer. And she was really good! Gary Oldman as Lt. James Gordon, Michael Cain as Alfred, and Morgan Freeman as Lucius Fox were all at the top of their game.
Christopher Nolan has outdone himself. This is his best film yet. I love what he has done with these characters and story. He has truly brought this genre to a new level. This is one hell of a talented and visionary director, and I can't wait to see what he does next.
I love the fact that comic book and superhero films are being taken more seriously. This summer has really brought the genre to a whole new level and it would be imposible for Hollywood to go back now and start making crappy super hero movie again. From here on out I think we are going to get some grade A comic book, super hero flicks!
The Dark Knight is the all around film I have seen in a long time. This movies has got to be nominated for Best Picture. I will be shocked and appalled if it isn't! Heath Ledger also needs to be nominated for Best Actor. None of this Best Supporting Actor crap I've been hearing about. This is a perfect performance by an actor and he deserves the nomination.
If you have not seen this movie yet then you must go see it as soon as you can! You need experience this amazing film. Whatever you decide to see always remember to enjoy your time at the movies!
