Johnny Depp to play The Mad Hatter?

by Billy Fisher

So the rumor bandwagon has started.  Tim Burton is in pre-production for an adaptation of Lewis Carroll's Alice in Wonderland.  This is a combo that I think I will thoroughly enjoy.  I have read a lot of blogs and posts of people who think that Burton has lost his touch.  For those of you who say that, shut up.  Now I admit that Planet of the Apes was a hard pill to swallow, but everyone has there bad moments.

For those of you that have not heard Alice in Wonderland, get your butts out of you chair, shut off your computer and go outside.  You need some serious help that the computer cannot fix. Anyway, I digress.

There has already been one name attached to this project and that is one Mia Wasikowiska.  Mia hasn't been in too much, but what she has been in she has performed outstandingly.  She did a few episodes of the show In Treatment where she played the character of Sophie.  You should check it out.  I certainly think that she will play Alice well.

The news that has started such a buzz on the web is that it is rumored that the one and only Captain Jack, Johnny Depp will be playing The Mad Hatter in Burton's vision of the classic story.

This is what kills me about this rumor.  I have read so many "bloggers" say that they hate the idea of Depp being in another Burton movie.  That is just something that I don't understand.  If you have a combo of director and actor that work wonders together, why would you complain that they continue to do it?  Maybe I'm dumb, but I just don't get what the problem is.  Then there those out there saying that they think that JD will play it too much like Willy Wonka.  To that I say, shut your mouth.  You have no idea what the man is going to do.  If you haven't noticed yet, JD has an endless list of things that he can do.  Dude is one of the most talented actors out there.  If you think that he would have to resort to playing the same character for two completely unattached movies, then there is more wrong with you then you know.

If you haven't noticed, I think that this is a great thing.  I truly believe that TB and JD know exactly what they are doing.  We should just sit back and enjoy the show.  I want to know what you think about this, so please tell me.  Until next time!
