'Red Dawn' Remake gets itself a Director

by Joey Paur

So MGM is really going through with this huh? The original 'Red Dawn' is one hell of a ridiculous movie to begin with. Sure its a classic bad 80's film but why remake a bad movie? I just don't get it. Well MGM went and got the remake a screenwriter and director. Carl Ellsworth will be writing the script he also wrote the film 'Red Eye' and Dan Bradley will be the remakes director. Who is Dan Bradley? Variety says:
Dan Bradley, a second unit director and/or stunt coordinator on "The Bourne Ultimatum," "Spider-Man 3" and the forthcoming "Quantum of Solace," will move into the director's chair for the update. Contrafilm's Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson will produce.

So he is a second unit director huh? Thats cool. He has worked on some good movies. Now the poor guy gets to direct a remake of a bad cult classic. We'll I guess he wanted it. there are a million other ideas I would like to do or see made before a remake of 'Red Dawn'. Here is what the screenwriter Ellsworth has to say about the movie:
"The tone is going to be very intense, very much keeping in mind the post-9/11 world that we're in," says Ellsworth, who was 11 when the original was released. "As 'Red Dawn' scared the heck out of people in 1984, we feel that the world is kind of already filled with a lot of paranoia and unease, so why not scare the hell out of people again?"

Umm... because the idea is not really that scary at all. It just confuses the hell out of me that people like him think re-making old cult classics is a great idea. Sorry, I just can't share his enthusiasm. What do you think? Are you pumped that 'Red Dawn' is being remade?
