Dr. Venkman Reviews: 'Righteous Kill'
Here's an idea. Let's get two of the greatest actors that have ever lived Robert Di Niro and Al Pacino, and throw them into a mediocre movie that they have no business being in at all. This movie could have starred to actors 20 years younger and it would have been a bit more believable, but the story wouldn't have been any better, that's for sure.I am shocked that these two guys agreed to be in this movie! If they thought this script was good then they must be loosing their taste in film, or they just couldn't say no to the money. Whatever the reason I was incredibly disappointed. I thought I would be, but I was hoping that it would exceed my expectations... it didn't. In fact it fell below them.
There is nothing original about Righteous Kill. The Concept has been done before, movie just did a bad job at executing it. When the movie started I just couldn't help but laugh at these two old guys trying to be tough cops, when they should be living it up in Florida with Jerry Seinfeld's parents. Here they are shooting guns and laughing like it is their first time shooting one. Then you see them in the gym working out like a couple of young bucks. Theses two cops should have been forced out of the department years ago or at least be in a very high ranking position.
There is a scene where Robert Di Niro is supposedly kicking the shit out of 50 Cent at least that's how they tell it in the story "Man he sure beat the Fu%k out of Spider." He kicked him in the Gut twice!
The story was incredibly plain. Throughout the whole film I was wondering where they were going with it, because from the beginning of the movie the confession of the killer is being read. They let the cat out of the bag right at the beginning of the film so where is the suspense? There is none. You see everything you need to see in the preview to know what the outcome of the film will be. You know what happens, you know who the killer is! And if you don't know there is a thought lingering in the back of your head, and I am here to tell you that thought is right on.
While I was watching the movie I was thinking "there has got to be a catch to this because the story is just boring". They try to throw you a curve ball, but you know it's coming and It's LAME.
It takes a lot of talent to get these two fantastic actors on screen and make them so bland and uninteresting. They were ok, I guess they did they best they could with the material they were given. The dialogue is trying to be cop smart, but comes off being weak. You would think these two guys would want to be in a movie together that is Academy Award worthy. The best actor in the movie was Carla Gugino. There's another thing! What in the hell is this sexy attractive woman doing having sex with an ugly old cop!?
My willing suspension of disbelief was off the charts on this movie!
The movie also stared 50 Cent, Donnie Wahlberg, and John Leguizamo. These guys all fit the parts they were playing and were decent. Rightous Kill was directed by Jon Avnet, and it wasn't directed very well.
I did not like Righteous Kill. I sat in a movie theater full of old people so that must be it's target audience. By the way if you see this movie and didn't see the end coming, shame on you for falling for it!
Whatever you end up going to see always remember to enjoy your time at the movies. With Righteous Kill you can always get a kick out of two old cops trying to be bad asses. And if you liked this movie please tell me why I am wrong.
One more thing. I don't mean to dog on Robert Di Niro and Al Pacino, they are amazing actors. But I honestly think they are more badass in real life as themselves, then they are in this movie.
