Sam Rockwell Confirms his role as Justin Hammer in 'Iron Man 2'
I got some great news for you all today! It is confirmed that Sam Rockwell will be in 'Iron Man 2' and he will play Justin Hammer who is an arms dealer that quickly becomes the worlds leading weapons supplier after Stark Industries abandons the manufacture of weapons and arms technology. On top of that Sam Rockwell reveals that he was actually considered by Jon Favreau for the role of Tony Stark in the first Iron Man film. That would have been really interesting to see, but I think it is very cool that Favreau is coming back to him to take up a similar but more sinister role.
So after a phone conversation to play Tony Stark, not getting the part, and 'Iron Man' becoming a huge hit, he got an offer to play Justin Hammer, and Rockwell accepted. He talked to MTV recently and here is what he had to say:
“They were like, we don’t have a script but this is the deal and this is the character, ...Yeah, he’s a rival, He takes over all the weapons stuff after Tony’s left, ...I don’t know if he takes over Stark Industries, I’m not really sure yet. He’s a money dude. That’s about all I can say.”
When asked is he would be excited to work with Golden Globe winner Mickey Rourke, Rockwell immediately replied. “Yes,” he stated. “I never have met him. I’ve seen him a couple times.” When it came to asking about Rourke being cast for sure, it didn't sound like he knew or didn't want to let the cat out of the bag. He said:
“Is Mickey cast yet? I hope so,”
And I think it is safe to say we all hope so. It would be great if Rourke stepping in to play either the Crimson Dynamo or Whiplash. If it were up to me i would go with Crimson Dynamo. 'Iron Man 2' is expected to start shoot in spring.
“Mid-April maybe, In L.A., I think.”
