Alex Proyas is excited for Dracula Year Zero
Alex Proyas sounds very excited to be developing his next movie project 'Darcula Year Zero', and now he's got me all excited about it as well! We reported not to long ago that Alex Proyas the director of 'The Crow', 'Dark City', and most recently 'Knowing' which is in post-production right now, was going to direct a movie about Dracula called 'Dracula Year Zero', which is supposed to be a origin story for Bram Stokers legendary vampire.
STYD recently had a quick talk with the director in which he talks about two upcoming projects Dracula and Tripod:
"I'm working on a bunch of different things and the two projects I'm excited about are an adaptation of John Christopher's The Tripod stories that I've co-written with Stuart Hazeldine, who is one of our writers on 'Knowing', and the Dracula project, Both are very exciting projects but at this stage, we're still in the budgeting process for both, so I can't really tell you much more than that."
This next statement is where he talks about 'Dracula Year Zero' and why he chose to make this movie.
"I'm not a fan of remakes or sequels - I haven't done any and I'm not really that excited by them usually, In the case of Dracula, the reason I got excited about the project is I read a particular script that puts the whole legend on its head in every conceivable way and comes out with something that is both a kind of an ode to Bram Stoker's original Dracula, in that it's kind of a prequel to that, but it also redefines the character to such an extent that I found it quite exciting, so that is very much a kind of reinvention of that character and it's why I got excited about it."
This could be a very bold movie. He plans on redefining and reinventing the legendary Dracula. I am really interested in what this story will involve. We have lived with the many different legends of Dracula for so long. Do you think Proyas has what it takes to reinvent the lendary creature of the night? Do you think that a new spin on the origin of Dracula will stick and go down in history with what we already know?
