WORLD OF WARCRAFT Movie to be Written by Saving Private Ryan Scribe

Sam Raimi's World of Warcraft movie has found it's screenwriter! Robert Rodat will be writing the script for the film, this is the same guy that wrote Steven Spielberg's Saving Private Ryan. This is very good news, Rodat is obviously a fantastic writer, and at this point I don't think World of Warcraft fans need to worry about if the film is going to suck or not. So far the project has attracted some very talented people.

News hit last week on IMDB that the movie might be called Warcraft: Rise of the Lich King, and be based of the WOW novel Arthus: Rise of the Lich King. Raimi recently said that that is not true. The movie will be created from scratch, it will be an original story that the writer will come up with, which will be based in the universe of the popular online game.  Raimi said in an interview with MTV,

We would choose... something that encompasses lands and characters and storylines, and we would be true to it. But our story may or may not be about one of those central characters.  We want to be really faithful to the game. We would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a 'World of WarCraft' adventure. Only obviously it's very different 'cause it's expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture... the Horde and the Alliance and the mythology that takes place in the game, and the archetypes that the game presents. I think we would try and find touchstones within the game to make it accurate and true and choose one or some of the lands that are portrayed in the game with as much accuracy and authenticity as possible.

If you didn't know already Raimi is a big fan of the game and plays it himself, and from the way he is talking about the World of Warcraft movie, it is going to be done right. Hardcore WOW fans will probably be more skeptical, but from my poit of view it looks like they are headed in the right direction.  Leave your thoughts in the rant back section below!
