Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz's WICHITA gets a Pun for a new Name

Early last month we brought you plot details and casting for 20th Century Fox's new James Mangold(3:10 to Yuma/Walk the Line) helmed action-spy drama starring Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz. And a couple of weeks ago we brought you the first pics from the set.

The one glaring problem with the high-budget flick currently filming in Massachusetts has been the studio's inability to settle on a title. The project has had names like the ambiguous sounding Wichita(fine in my book), or Trouble Man(sounds like something Nic Cage would star in). Now Fox has finally settled on a title. So, with all the changes and hair pulling mid production, the new title must be good right? There's no way they would settle on something cheesy right? WRONG! The new title is a pun! No joke, the drama will be called Knight & Day.

Variety reports the film as an "action comedy", but that can't be right... then again, Knight & Day does sound silly. Cruise plays a man of mystery who links up with Diaz. They become fugitives, there are betrayals and shifting alliances all around them, and they must figure out whether to be guided by truth or trust. Paul Dano will plays a charming but mysterious scientist whose invention is at the center of Cruise and Diaz’s chase.

Peter Sarsgaard, Viola Davis, Olivier Martinez, Maggie Grace and Mark Blucas also star in the film most recently drafted by Mangold and Scott Frank.

Knight & Day hits theaters July 2, 2010.

What do you think of the film and it's new title?
