Gus Van Sant and Bret Easton Ellis to Write THE GOLDEN SUICIDES

Movie Gus Van Sant by Joey Paur

Director Gus Van Sant and author Bret Easton Ellis are teaming up to write a new film based on a article in Vanity Fair called, The Golden Suicides, which is about the double suicide of artists Theresa Duncan and Jeremy Blake. The story is fascinating, among several things they thought the government and Scientologists were conspiring against them.

Duncan and Blake formed a popular couple on the downtown New York and Venice, Calif., art scenes. She was one of the first videogame designers for girls, and his "digital paintings" -- kaleidoscopic images shown on plasma screens -- established him as a rising star on the circuit.

The couple descended into a paranoid spiral when the artists developed a consuming belief that government and Scientologists  were conspiring against them. She killed herself in 2007. Blake found her body on the floor of their bedroom, and walked into the Atlantic Ocean a week later, ending his life.

So if you are into depressing films then this could be the one for you. Gus Van Sant is only involved as a writer at the point, we're not sure if he plans to direct it or not.
