5 Horror Films you may not have heard of but need to see

RantMovie Horror by Joey Paur

I’ve compiled a list of five horror films that many people may not have seen or even heard of(if you have, then this is a little reminder that they are out there). There’s a wide variety of horror films on the list, from slashers to psychological terror, from horror comedies to horror gore films. These are horror movies that you should most definitely make an effort to see, and are best viewed during the Halloween season. Enjoy!

Motel Hell

There's too many people in the world and not enough food. Now this takes care of both problems at the same time.

This 1980 horror comedy is about meat entrepreneur butcher Vincent Smith, who runs a farm and hotel with his sister Ida. The Hotel is called Motel Hello, but the O on the sign flickers on and off. Vincent makes smoked meats that are proclaimed to be the most tasty and delicious in the surrounding hundred miles. Vincent's secret, as it turns out, is human flesh. There are isolated areas around his motel strewn with various booby traps to catch unfortunate victims. The victims are then placed in a 'secret garden' where they are buried up to their necks and have their vocal cords slit so they can't scream. Vincent keeps them buried until he believes they are ripe and then kills them, quarters them, and cures them. Ida helps in this task, and seems to enjoy it a little too much, whereas Vincent for the most part, seems rather calm and certain in his belief he's not doing anything wrong.

Cemetary Man

The Living Dead and the dying living are all the same. Cut from the same cloth. But disposing of dead people is a public service, whereas you're in all sorts of trouble if you kill someone while they're still alive.

This is a 1994 Italian film that follows Francesco Dellamorte, who is the cemetery caretaker in the small town of Buffalora, Italy. He lives in a ramshackle house on the premises, constantly surrounded by death, with only his mentally handicapped assistant Gnaghi for company, who expresses his ideas and opinions only saying "Gna". Young punks in town spread gossip that Francesco is impotent. He can open up to his only friend, Franco, by telephone, but when they meet in person, have little to say. Francesco's only hobbies are reading outdated telephone directories, in which he crosses out the names of the deceased, and trying to assemble a puzzle shaped like a human skull.

The Tenant

If you cut off my head, what would I say... Me and my head, or me and my body? What right has my head to call itself me?

This insane little 1976 movie was directed by Roman Polanski. He also stars in the movie as the main character, Trelkowski, a quiet and inconspicuous man, who rents an apartment in France where the previous tenant committed suicide, and begins to suspect his landlord and neighbors are trying to subtly change him into the last tenant so that he too will kill himself. The movie is more a psychological thriller that plays out like a twisted twilight zone episode.

It used to feel like a big ocean, didn't it?

This 2002 movie was pretty freakin' awesome, but it sunk at the box-office. It’s a ghost story that takes place on a submarine during World War II. That was enough to sell me when I first heard about it. The U.S.S. Tiger Shark prowls on what should be a routine rescue mission. But for the shell-shocked crew, trapped together in the sub's narrow corridors and constricted spaces, this is about to become a journey into the sensory delusions, where mental deceptions and runaway fear that lurk just below the surface of the ocean run deep inside the human psyche. More people need to see this movie!

Martin

Nosferatu. Vampire! First I will save your soul, then I will destroy you. I will show you your room.

I’m shocked at how many people have never heard of this 1977 horror film that was written and directed by George A. Romero. I consider this movie his best film. The film was shot with a low-budget, filmed entirely on real locations, and many of the supporting cast members were friends and family. I believe Romero has stated that this is his favorite movie out of all of his films. The movie is about a 17 year old boy named Martin, who claims to be a 84 year old vampire, and he drinks human blood. The boy arrives in Pittsburg to stay with his uncle, who promises to save Martin's soul and destroy him once he is finished, but Martin's loneliness finds other means of release. He sedates women with a syringe full of narcotics and then slices their wrists with a razor blade so he can drink their blood.

What are some horror movies you would like to suggest for us to watch that you don't think many people have seen!?
