Ridley Scott Gives a Little ALIEN Prequel Update

I couldn't be happier that Ridley Scott is coming back to direct another Alien film. We've known that this was happening for some time now, and it is awesome to hear the the film is currently being actively worked on. This new Alien film has always been a prequel, but we weren't sure how far back in time the story could take place. There was speculation that the movie would tell the story of how the xenomorphs ended up on LV-426 in the first place, but according to Scott, that is not the case. Here is what he recently told Empire,

It’s a brand new box of tricks. We know what the road map is, and the screenplay is now being put on paper. The prequel will be a while ago. It’s very difficult to put a year on Alien, but [for example] if Alien was towards the end of this century, then the prequel story will take place thirty years prior.

So the story will take place 30 years before the first Alien, and the screenplay is being written. I can't wait to see what Scott has planned for us! There is no doubt the film is going to blow our geek socks off. I don't know if you remember or not, but back in 2002 Scott expressed interest in the space jockey's race and exploring "where the alien creatures were first found and explain how they were created." Will Scott dive into these ideas, or has he found a better story to work from since he's said those things?

It would be great if he went back to The Company introduced to us in Alien, Wayland-Yutani, and maybe focus on their earliest encounter with the xenomorph. If you notice in Scott's quote above, it has the word, "created." So he's had this idea in his head that the aliens are a creation, not a natural evolution. So how were these Aliens created? And why is Wayland-Yutani so interested in them?

We know that The Company has been portrayed as exhibiting the worst aspects of corporate profiteering, willing to sacrifice decency and human life in the pursuit of money. It's had its hands in all aspects of space colonization and research, and consistently ordered its employees and agents to attempt to obtain living xenomorphs so that they can be exploited as a biological weapon.

Is it possible that the xenomorph is something they created? Maybe not intentionally, but they are held responsible nonetheless.
