Have you seen Trick 'r Treat yet!? If not get off our ass and go buy this bad-boy, or sit on your ass and order it from Amazon! I don't care as long as you watch the movie! I bought it and watched it for the second time last night, watching Trick r' Treat will now be a Halloween tradition in my home. I love this movie! It is the first really true Halloween film full of Halloween spirit. It's become an instant cult classic. It's a bloody shame the movie never got released in theaters, but at least you can own it.

It is said that Halloween is the night when the dead rise to walk among us and other unspeakable things roam free. The rituals of All Hallows Eve were devised to protect us from their evil mischief, and one small town is about to be taught a terrifying lesson that some traditions are best not forgotten. Nothing is what it seems when a suburban couple learns the dangers of blowing out a Jack-o-Lantern before midnight; four women cross paths with a costumed stalker at a local festival; a group of pranksters goes too far and discovers the horrifying truth buried in a local legend; and a cantankerous old hermit is visited by a strange trick-or-treater with a few bones to pick. Costumes and candy, ghouls and goblins, monsters and mayhem... the tricks and treats of Halloween turn deadly as strange creatures of every variety-human and otherwise-try to survive the scariest night of the year.

Now it looks like if writer and director Michael Doughtery has his way he will be making sequels to the film for years to come! How awesome would that be?!  In a recent interview with MTV he said:

Yeah, I have to say that the excitement over the past few months of watching the film grow has started to jumpstart some ideas, and I know how the next one ends. If this [DVD release] does become something, if it catches executives off-guard, it might [get sequels]. I would love to do them.

And I would love to watch them, as I'm sure everyone that has seen the film would like to see a sequel as well! He goes on to say,

The whole idea originally, for me, was to do one if not every Halloween, at least every other Halloween. Because it’s an anthology film, it lends itself to telling another four stories which would intertwine – but I think you could take the film and explore how Halloween was celebrated in different locations, different time periods, and the one consistent character would be Sam, the mascot.

I like where his head is at! Exploring Halloween in different times and locations!? There are so many great stories that can be told! It seems like he has a really good idea of what the sequel will be.

I know how the next one ends, I know who the main villain would be – let’s just say that there’s a whole contingent of people out there who hate Halloween, who try to convince people that Halloween is a genuinely evil holiday that should be avoided. And I’d like to see Sam go up against one of those types. No, no [it’s not a character from the first film]. I just know the type of character – when I sat down to write ‘Trick ‘r Treat,’ I knew that the final battle would be between Sam and a kind of Scrooge – Brian Cox’s character is very much Scrooge for Halloween. I know who that antagonist would be in the next film.

I bet the villain will be some sort of religious nut-case that believes Halloween is of the devil, and takes their beliefs to the crazy extreme. That would make perfect sense. If Dougherty gets busy with some of the other projects he is working he has no problem with bringing in other filmmakers into the fold to get the sequels made.

I love the idea of collaborating with new people, so I might be willing to step back and just produce, but then find other writers and directors to work with to take the ball and run with it. I think that would be fun.

So there it is folks! It's very possible that we are going to see a few Trick 'r Treat sequels! What type of traditions, places, and time periods would you like to see the new Trick 'r Treat stories explore?
